nina's closet

When you are raising grandchildren, you may feel overcome with emotions. You may feel grief, sadness, and a sense of loss and disappointment that your child wasn't able to raise his/her children. Or you may feel angry or resentful about having to take on this role. If your feelings are getting in the way of your day-to-day life, it can be helpful to talk to others in similar situations. Remember, by taking care of your own mental health needs you will be better able to care for your grandchildren.
Every child deserves a chance at living in a home that is free of substance abuse issues and dangers. A common myth regarding addiction is that it only affects the person addicted, no one else. However, addiction not only affects the user themselves but everyone surrounding them. Currently, throughout the United States, there are twenty million children experiencing physical, verbal, and emotional abuse at the hands of parents who are struggling with alcohol and drug addiction.Across the nation, 4% of all kids — more than 2.65 million children — are in kinship care. In this arrangement, relatives raise kids when their parents cannot care for them.Nina's Closet is there to help the families with clothing, personal items, toys and a shoulder to lean on. At no cost to you.
Nina’s Closet is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays or by appointment by calling 330-277-9625. They are accepting donations of gently used infant through adult clothing, nursery items, shoes, toys and hygiene products. No electronics or household items are needed.
The location also serves as the Ohio CAN Change Addiction Now Columbiana County office, with Nina’s Closet a project of the non-profit which caters to families dealing with addiction. Information on addiction and recovery services will be available. Ohio CAN is also a distributor of Narcan through Project Dawn and the Family Recovery Center.

Princess Tea Party

A Bibbity Bobbity Boo day for all the children dressed in their Princess attire.Time spent sharing cupcakes and cookies, tea and lemonaid with their favorite Princess. Every child left with a gift bag full of teasures and memories to last forever.

OhioCAN Blessing Box

Homelessness is our largest challenge at the Blessing Bag Program. The sheer number of people that honestly need help is overwhelming, not to mention the ones that live a lifestyle and make money pretending to be homeless, so weeding them out can be a challenge within itself. Many families are in need, some right in your own community. While some of these families have permanent needs, some are just temporary. We help those families by providing a gallon sized blessing bag each month, filled with various items for families with 2-3 children.
We would like to thank Jamie Messersmith who built the Blessing Box in memory of Amanda S. Messersmith, 25, who passed on February 22, 2017 leaving behind her son, Atreyu Lloyd. We offer continued love and support to her mother Kimmie and Jamie as they raise Atreyu. They attend all OhioCAN events and offer support to others who have lost a child and are raising a grandchild.

Mickey & Minnie Valentine Party

Chase and Skye

PAW Patrol's Chase and Skye visiting proving that "no job is too big and no pup is too small" as they keep Nina's Closet safe and full of fun and laughter! A great time was had by all and special treats were passed out to all the children who came for a FREE photo opportunity.
One of the happiest days of my life was the day I learned I would become a "Nina!" I dreamed of special outings, birthday presents and all the things other Nina's dream of. But this journey many of us travel consists of unknown winding roads and detours along the way. I never thought I would be raising my grandchild, but again like many of you, it brings my happiest days every day. Although the road has its bumpy patches, I hope Nina's Closet helps smooth your road through compassion, understanding and just a shoulder to lean on. ~ Brenda
